About the Club

Founded in 2005, the University of Waterloo  Ballroom Dance Club began as merely a few friends who had an interest in ballroom dancing. Now a not-for-profit sports club under UW Athletics and Recreational Services, we have grown considerably in both size and in quality in the past decade to be the largest ballroom dance club of any university in Ontario.

Club Purpose and Mission

Throughout the years, our aim has always been to provide high-quality instruction in international-style ballroom dancing at student-friendly costs, and to foster a welcoming  dance community here at the university. We offer a selection of classes taught by professional instructors, numerous dance opportunities, and  social events, ask us about it!

Our primary purpose is to foster the interest of recreational/social dancing, but we will endeavour to support students with an interest in competing at the collegiate level as interest and resources permit.

Quick Notes

  • Lessons are on Sunday, and are taught by professional instructors
  • Practices sessions are not mandatory and are run by executive members who will  help review the lesson content and provide additional information
  • No partners required - we practice rotating partners during lessons and practices
  • No special shoes required - indoor shoes or socks are just fine
  • No experience required - our classes progress from very beginner levels to advanced
  • Be sure to join the facebook group, we post frequent updates and notifications there!
